This 2012 Porsche Cayman R is a lightweight, performance-focused variant of the 987.2 platform, finished in Meteor Grey Metallic over a black leather and Alcantara interior. Powered by a 3.4-liter flat-six paired with a six-speed manual transaxle, the Cayman R delivers a pure, driver-oriented experience, further enhanced by the optional Sport Chrono Package and a set of carbon-fiber-backed bucket seats. Factory rated at 330 horsepower, this example retains the Cayman R's unique character, which includes weight-saving measures such as aluminum doors, reduced sound insulation, and a fixed rear wing - shedding approximately 120 pounds compared to the Cayman S.
Exterior features include red and silver side graphics, bi-xenon headlights with dynamic cornering lights, yellow fog lights, quarter-panel air intakes, dual center exhaust outlets, and lightweight 19'' silver wheels wrapped in Continental ExtremeContact Force tires. The passenger-side wheels were refinished in May 2024. Braking is handled by red four-piston Porsche-branded calipers over cross-drilled rotors, and Porsche Stability Management (PSM) is standard.
Inside, the driver-focused cockpit features carbon-fiber full bucket seats trimmed in black leather and Alcantara with red seatbelts. Equipment includes the Sport Chrono Package, a Bose surround-sound system, automatic climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, and a leather-wrapped SportDesign steering wheel. The minimalist instrument cluster is hoodless and displays an 8,000-rpm redline tachometer, a 190-mph speedometer, and additional auxiliary gauges.
This example includes a 16.9-gallon extended-range fuel tank and sends power exclusively to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. Included with the sale are Porsche Production Specifications, a DME report, service records, manufacturer's literature, spare and removed parts, and an art depiction of the car - offering a well-documented and rare example of one of Porsche's most engaging modern mid-engine models.

    • Great Car

I've had it for a year. Outstanding handling and acceleration. Gets a huge amount of compliments--everyone thinks that it is a top of the line Porsche. The mid-engine design gives it great balance. With Michelin Pilot Alpin winter tires it did great in the snow and with the Pilot Sports it handles like a cup car. Can't recommend it enough as a great value in a sports car. Low maintenance--you change the oil once a year and there are no other service requirements until you hit 100,000 miles. Plenty of room to carry two sets of golf clubs and two suitcases for a vacation trip.
    • Best Car I Have Ever Had

I have had a few cars including 2 Audi S4's (1 with 340hp) and this is the best car I have ever had. It is awesome in the corners with enough power for me and the engine screams above 6,000 rpm. I is also fairly practical and holds quite a bit of luggage or cargo. It is very comfortable on long trips and people comment on it everywhere. It is a beautiful, curvy car and you feel special every time you drive it.
    • Just as exciting as my old Cayman "S" model!

This is my second Cayman. I owned a 2008 Cayman S 6 speed and now this 2008 Cayman base 5 speed. I sold my last Cayman S due to concerns with bore scoring which could happen on the 3.4L motor. From what I've read this issue did not effect the 2.7L motor. When I located my base Cayman I was a little worried I would not be as happy with it coming out of an S model with the 295HP 3.4L as compared to the 245HP 2.7L. I must say I am not one bit dissatisfied with this 2.7 base model! It is just as fun as my S model was when running it up through the RPM's. These flat 6's love the higher RPM range and sing a sound of beauty when you get them above 4K RPM. They are meant to be driven and you can feel how happy they are when you push them. A true drivers car! The handling is superb and I just can't think of a better value for the money out there today. You can't go wrong with a base 2.7 with the manual transmission. No bore score issues and the 2008 model years also come with the double row IMS bearing which is pretty solid and the failure rates are extremely low as compared to the older 987 engines with the single row bearing. If you're considering getting into a Porsche at a decent price, this car is anything but a "poor man's Porsche." It is a spectacular car that is an absolute blast to drive! In my opinion, the 2.7 is the best bang for the buck. You won't be disappointed.
